Philippines Are Wimps

So the Philippines has withdrawn from Iraq. Not a lot of troops, but the significance is not without notice. However I shouldn’t forget about all the Pinoy workers overseas who are the country’s largest source of foreign earnings. I guess they must protect these workers and their earnings.

So 1 point to the terrorists, 0 to GMA, 10 for common sense.

However, it's mighty sad to see any way given to thugs, terrorists and those opposed to democracy and freedom.

Idj's SWMBO

SWMBO. It's pronounced 'swimbo'. While we might be able to take credit for the initialism and pronunciation, the phrase is actually a phrase Idj first heard and read in the John Mortimer series 'Rumpole of the Bailey'. In it, Rumpole refers to his wife as 'She Who Must Be Obeyed', and, yes, you can hear the capitalization just as Idj wrote it.
See here http://www.idjit.net/swmbo.html
Idj's journal is here http://www.itsamystery.ca/journal/

My first use of SWIMBO came from Ian Warden in the Canberra Times who coined the term SISWO. Which means she who is sometimes obeyed. I altered it to SWIMBO. And yes I do remember Rumpole's usage, but didn't connect it at the time.

Anyway, I have used SWIMBO for about 12 years now.

RIP Guinea Pig and Rabbit

Its been a bad week. On Tues 22nd June a dog got over the back fence and took the last guinea pig and the rabbit. They have both been with us for many years. The rabbit was a special pet and was much loved the kids and Swimbo. Even I had some feeling for him.

Its also close to the Iraq handover with much useless bloodshed by those who don't have any feeling for freedom nor democracy. Its such a shame that the world had so many people who don't want to live in peace and harmony.

I also read about Norfolk Island again where Janelle Patton was murdered about two years ago. According to reports the police know the murderer but do not have enough evidence.

I started to read a report on the Australian Parliament web site. Seems like there is an underlying scene of silence and intimidation occuring in many of the islands residents, especially the old Bounty mob. Obviously with corruption and terrorism ripe in the smaller and less democratic nations, it seems like Norfolkers are setting themselves up for a problem. A bit of real taxtaion and true democrarcy might alter this pending doom.

Its also the week that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has been accepted by the Phillipnes Parliament as the relected president. Must admit that it gives me satisfaction to see seom form of democracy in that country. Would have hated to see another flim star get the nod.

0h by the way. Swimbo is a Filipina. We met many moons ago in Manila.

We have lived form well over 20 years in Australia, and have two grown offsprings aged 19 and 23.

So yes I take an interest in the Phillipines.

I have also visted Iraq and Israel and still am interested in what happens there. PS babylon is not worth vsiting but that museum that was sacked in Baghdad was a gem.

More grunging later on.
